The 'Monkey' is a clever beast. Monkeys live all over the world and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Monkeys are interesting creatures. Almost every one knows its activity and intelligence.

There are over 260 species of monkeys, including apes, lemurs and tarsiers. Their personalities and habits capture the attention of humans on many levels. These intelligent animals with opposable thumbs live in family groups, too.

Monkeys are chiefly found in tropical countries. Hence we find them in India, Africa and South America. In India they are found in great number in Haridwar, Varanasi, Vrindawan, Ayodhya and so on. Sometimes they are seen on hill-tops, example, in Simla and Puri.

Monkeys like to live in jungles and temples. They jump from tree to tree and enjoy themselves. It feeds on fruits and roots. It almost eats every thing which a man eats.

The most peculiar feature that one finds in the monkey is the art of imitation. That is why its habit is counted half human. Once he sees something, it tries to copy it. It is therefore caught and trained.

'Monkey Day' is an unofficial international holiday celebrated on December 14. It is celebrated worldwide and often also known as 'World Monkey Day' and 'International Monkey Day'. Many zoos hold annual Monkey Day events. Some of these events focus on educational events about monkeys.
