3. Peacock has a prominent reference in ancient Indian Art and Architecture as well as has a religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions. Therefore it was chosen as the National Bird of India.

18. Hunting of Peacocks is banned in India. It is fully protected under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
