Subject: Indiscriminate use of loudspeakers

Sir,

Through the esteemed column of your newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the authorities to the evil of indiscriminate use of loudspeakers.

Loudspeakers are one of the gifts of science and have a great utility. They come very handy to address a large gathering. But we face trouble when people use it without caring for the interests of others.

Loudspeakers are now being used all the time and frequently throughout the night at high pitch. Even small shopkeepers misuse them to attract customers. In marriages and in lavish night parties, the free use of stereos and deafening high pitch shocks the whole locality. Then there is a spate of Bhagwati Jagrans which by using the highest pitch of the loudspeakers force the people to stay away the whole night. Nobody cares whether there are students preparing for their examination or patients requiring undisturbed rest or people, after day long hard toil, longing to sleep.

The public needs that there should be some restriction and special permission and time limit for their use; deterrent punishment for the infringement of orders.

Thanking you.

Yours' faithfully
