'Lohri' is a famous festival of Punjabi people. It is celebrated in North India especially in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Jammu. It is is celebrated on the 13th day of January which falls in the month of Paush or Magh according to Hindu Calendar. Lohri festival marks the culmination of winter.
The main theme of Lohri is the belief that Lohri is the cultural celebration of the winter solstice. On this festival people gather around the bonfires, throw sweets, puffed rice and popcorn into the flames, sing popular songs and exchange greetings. The prasad comprises of six main things: til, gazak, gur, moongphali, phuliya and popcorn. The gatherings and celebrations make Lohri a community festival.
