'Maharana Pratap Jayanti' or 'Pratap Jayanti' is celebrated every year on 3rd day of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month according to Hindu Calendar. It is the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap. Maharana Pratap was born in Kumbhalgarh in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. He was the son of Maharana Udai Singh and Rani Jeevant Kanwar.Maharana Pratap was a Hindu Rajput ruler of Mewar. He was a true patriot. He initiated the first war of independence. He fought the famous Battle of Haldighati with Mughal Emperor Akbar. On Maharana Pratap Jayanti special puja and processions are held everywhere in the remembrance of Maharana Pratap. At many places cultural programs are also organized on this day.
