'Karva Chauth' is one of the most important festivals of Hindus. It falls on the fourth day after the full moon in the month of Kartik according to Hindu Calendar. It generally arrives in October/ November month as per the modern calendar. Karva Chauth is celebrated by Hindu women across all over India.
Karva Chauth is a day long fast observed by married women for the welfare and longevity of their husbands. There are various stories which describe the starting and significance of this festival.
On the day of Karva Chauth, women wake up early in the morning. Before the sunrise, they eat fruits and a special dish called feniyan. After this, the whole day long strict fast without food or water is observed. On this day, women apply heena on hands. They wear best of clothes and traditional jewellery. They open their fast at night with the arrival of moon.
