'World Diabetes Day: 14 November' | Short Essay on 'World Diabetes Day' (160 Words)

'World Diabetes Day (WDD)' is observed on 14th November every year. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world. This day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or when it cannot effectively use the insulin. It does produce to help the body metabolize the sugar that is formed from the food we eat. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar, which gives us the energy we need to live. Unable to get into the cells to be burned as energy, the sugar can build up to harmful levels in the blood.

Each year, World Diabetes Day is centred on a theme related to diabetes. Various associations in the world, NGO's, health department and companies develop an extensive range of activities on this day.
