'Radhakrishnan Jayanti' fall on 5th September every year. In India, Radhakrishnan Jayanti is celebrated as 'Teacher's Day'. It is the birth date of the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888.

Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was a staunch believer of education, and was the well-known diplomat, scholar and ideal teacher. He was a great Philosopher and also a teacher. He was also a great freedom fighter. He had a deep love for the profession of teaching.

On this day teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. At some schools on this day, the responsibility of teaching is taken up by the senior students to show appreciation for their teachers. In educational institutions all over India, this day is observed with seriousness. The teachers also do not hesitate to shower their blessings on their students.

On this day teachers selected from schools and colleges are invited by the President of India and honoured by giving a certificate of recognition along with some cash prize. The award given by the President is called the National Award for Teachers, which is a great honour to the humble teachers.
